Embroidery Care FAQ
Embroidery Care FAQ
Taking a little extra care with your embroidered pieces helps them stay beautiful wash after wash. The tips below are general best practices — if you have questions specific to your garment's thread, fabric, or backing, contact us before washing.
Can I machine wash my embroidered garment?
Generally yes, but we recommend using the gentle or delicate cycle with cold water. High agitation and hot water can cause thread to loosen, pucker, or bleed depending on the fiber content. Always check the garment's care label first — it takes priority over general embroidery advice.
Should I turn the garment inside out before washing?
Yes. Turning the garment inside out protects the embroidered surface from friction against other items in the wash and reduces the risk of snagging or pilling around the stitching.
What detergent should I use?
Use a mild, dye-free, fragrance-free detergent when possible. Harsh detergents, bleach, and fabric softeners can break down thread fibers over time or leave residue that irritates sensitive skin. Avoid enzyme-based detergents on delicate threads.
Can I put embroidered items in the dryer?
We recommend air drying flat or hanging to preserve the shape of both the garment and the embroidery. If you use a dryer, select the lowest heat setting and remove promptly. High heat can shrink the base fabric unevenly and cause the embroidery to pucker or distort.
Can I iron embroidered areas?
Avoid ironing directly on top of embroidery. If the garment needs pressing, iron from the reverse side on a low heat setting, or place a pressing cloth between the iron and the embroidery. Direct heat can flatten stitches and damage metallic or specialty threads.
